Certification and rating serves as a useful common benchmark through which Permata Group can measure its progress towards Sustainability. Over the years, we have successfully obtained and maintained numerous sustainability certifications and participated in sustainability ratings. The sustainability certifications we have obtained and the sustainability ratings we have participated in are listed below:

Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO)

RSPO is a multi-stakeholder initiative with more than 4,400 members spread over seven member categories: oil palm growers, oil palm processors and traders, consumer goods manufacturers, retailers, banks and investors, environmental NGOs, and social NGOs. Since its inception in 2004, RSPO has been leading the transformation of palm oil industry towards sustainability and accountability by providing standards as well as resources and trainings for the industry. The two standards provided by RSPO are:

  • RSPO P&C (Principles and Criteria) for growers and mills

  • RSPO SCCS (Supply Chain Certifications) for processors, consumer good manufacturers, and other downstream players

Permata Group has been RSPO members since 2006. Our refineries have obtaind RSPO SCCS certification and are able to supply RSPO certified oil.

Our plantation and mill have also obtained P&C certification.

ISPO

ISPO is a mandatory sustainability standard developed by the government of Indonesia with the aim to advance sustainability in Indonesian palm oil sector.

ISPO was established in 2011 and 5.25 million hectares of Indonesian plantation has been ISPO certified by 2020. Permata Group has obtained one ISPO certification for our mill with another two expected to follow in the near future.

International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC)

ISCC is established in 2010 to allow vegetable oil exporters to certify that their oils are compliant with European EU RED 2009 for use as renewable fuels.

The main defining feature of ISCC and other EU RED certification schemes is the heavy emphasis on the carbon footprint. The carbon footprint of a vegetable oil must be 50% lower than the carbon footprint of the equivalent fossil fuel to be declared compliant with EU RED 2009 rules.

Permata Group had obtained ISCC certification since 2015 and is able to supply ISCC certified oil.

Programme for Environmental Performance Rating (PROPER)

PROPER rating is established by Indonesian Ministry of Environment to measure the environmental compliance of companies operating in Indonesia and to reward companies whose initiative and innovation goes beyond mere compliance.

There are five PROPER ratings:

Black = Repetitive non-compliance

Red = Some non-compliance
