Certification and rating serves as a useful common benchmark through which Permata Hijau can measure its progress towards Sustainability. Over the years, we have successfully obtained and maintained numerous sustainability certifications and participated in sustainability ratings. The sustainability certifications we have obtained and the sustainability ratings we have participated in are listed below:

Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO)

RSPO is a multi-stakeholder initiative with more than 4,400 members spread over seven member categories: oil palm growers, oil palm processors and traders, consumer goods manufacturers, retailers, banks and investors, environmental NGOs, and social NGOs. Since its inception in 2004, RSPO has been leading the transformation of palm oil industry towards sustainability and accountability by providing standards as well as resources and trainings for the industry. The two standards provided by RSPO are:

  • RSPO P&C (Principles and Criteria) for growers and mills

  • RSPO SCCS (Supply Chain Certifications) for processors, consumer good manufacturers, and other downstream players

Permata Hijau has been RSPO members since 2006. Our refineries have obtaind RSPO SCCS certification and are able to supply RSPO certified oil.

International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC)

ISCC is established in 2010 to allow vegetable oil exporters to certify that their oils are compliant with European EU RED 2009 for use as renewable fuels.

The main defining feature of ISCC and other EU RED certification schemes is the heavy emphasis on the carbon footprint. The carbon footprint of a vegetable oil must be 50% lower than the carbon footprint of the equivalent fossil fuel to be declared compliant with EU RED 2009 rules.

Permata Hijau had obtained ISCC certification since 2015 and is able to supply ISCC certified oil.

Programme for Environmental Performance Rating (PROPER)

PROPER rating is established by Indonesian Ministry of Environment to measure the environmental compliance of companies operating in Indonesia and to reward companies whose initiative and innovation goes beyond mere compliance.

There are five PROPER ratings:

Black = Repetitive non-compliance

Red = Some non-compliance

Blue = Full compliance

Green = Full compliance with some beyond compliance programs

Gold = Full compliance with well-developed beyond compliance programs

Permata Hijau has consistently obtained PROPER Blue ratings meaning our companies have fully complied with Indonesian environmental laws and regulations.

Industri Hijau

Industri Hijau is an award established by the Indonesian Ministry of Industry to reward companies which have implemented activities to reduce environmental impacts from their operations.

Permata Hijau’s business units have obtained several Industry Hijau awards with one unit awarded Level 5 Award (highest level)

Eco Vadis

Eco Vadis was founded in 2007 and has since grown into a trusted and leading sustainability rating provider with 55,000 strong member networks. Eco Vadis mission is to provide the world’s most-trusted sustainability ratings, enabling all businesses to reduce risk, drive performance, and improve environmental and social outcomes.

Two of our business units have participated in Eco Vadis rating system. One of them achieved recognition level of silver while the other achieved bronze.

SMK3

SMK3 certification is the Indonesian health and safety certification that is roughly equivalent to ISO 45001: 2018 certification. The achievement of SMK3 certification showed Permata Hijau commitment towards safe working conditions for our workers. Most of our business units have achieved SMK3 certification.
