PT DAS is not part of Permata Group’s supply chain. However, we promptly engaged with its parent company, Bumitama Agri Group. Our commercial relationship with Bumitama is limited to one of its mills located in Sumatra.

The company stated that following the acquisition of PT DAS in 2016, Bumitama implemented a stop-work order to conduct various assessments, including a peat soil delineation. A full peat survey was conducted in December 2021 by a certified team, which confirmed that no peat was present in the proposed new planting areas (disputed area). The soil was identified as mineral, primarily sandy and clay types. To address the recent concerns, additional soil sampling was performed in August 2025, again confirming the absence of peat.
The press release clarifies that the water management channels in the PT DAS area were built to mitigate flooding from the Pawan River, not to drain peat. These channels also serve as a physical buffer to protect conservation zones from encroachment.
03 Sept 2025Mighty Earth issued a report in response to a press release from Bumitama regarding allegations of peatland development by its subsidiary, PT Damai Agro Sejahtera (PT DAS).
