First of all, Permata Hijau Group (PHG) would like to reiterate our committment to the No Deforestation, No Peat and No Exploitation Policy as was elucidated in our Sustainability Policy. We have been made aware of the RAN report titled “Will Nestle and Mars intervene to protect Indonesia’s peatlands?” which highlighted our commercial relationship with PT. Kallista Alam which was accused of deforestation and peat destruction. The report also mentioned that PHG intentionally failed to include PT. Kallista Alam in their supplier list.

In response to this report, we have conducted a thorough internal review of our supplier lists and found that we do actually bought CPO from PT. Kallista Alam in the second semester of 2019. The continued purchase of CPO from PT. Kallista Alam and the failure to include it in our list is an unfortunate and unacceptable oversight which should not have happened in the first place and which we highly regretted. This oversight is an affront to our vision and values and we will make sure that it does not happen again in the future. However, we would like to emphasize that this oversight is not an intentional effort to mislead our buyers.

Moving forward, we have ceased all commercial relationship with PT. Kallista Alam with immediate effect on 10 June 2020.

In addition to ceasing relationship with PT. Kallista Alam, we will do the following steps:

• • We will commence an investigation into how this oversight happened so that it will not happen again in the future.

• • We will commence a thorough review of our supplier list to ensure full transparency so that we will not have any more commercial relationship with problematic companies. The result of the review will be reflected in our updated supplier list.

• • We will create a regularly updated list of non-compliant suppliers to guide us in our purchasing and socialise it to our procurement team.

• • We will increase training for our procurement team on sustainability and traceability.

• • We will engage our suppliers located around Leuser ecosystem to educate and support them on their sustainability.

Earlier this year we took a leap toward transparency by making public our supplier list and our complaint and grievance system. We also conducted our first Supplier Workshop with Cargill’s help earlier this year in March. Our continuous efforts in improving our sustainability will see us launching our supplier questionnaire and supplier code in the near future. We are also making progress in our drive to increase our traceability to plantation.
